Three North Iowa farms were recognized by Waverly-based AgVantage FS for implementing sustainable nutrient management practices. The firm recognized 26 Iowa farms "who have adopted practices that optimize nutrient utilization, leading to positive long-term soil and water quality, while enhancing return on investment." The local winners include: Dennis Brinkman, Greene; Wayne and Lisa Koehler, Charles City; and Marvin and Carolyn Oleson, Latimer.

Rockford native Rick Tegtmeier was recently named 2017 Golf Course Superintendent of the Year by TurfNet. Tegtmeier, currently the director of grounds at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, began his career on the golf course at the age of 14 at Rockford Golf & Country Club.
