Tim Schmidt, Garner city council member, was elected to serve on the executive board of the Iowa League of Cities during the group’s annual conference Sept. 14 in Council Bluffs. Schmidt was first elected to the Garner City Council in November 2013. He also serves on the North Iowa Area Council of Governments.

Now that the holiday season is over many people forget about the great need the homeless face everyday here in Carson City. With some of the coldest weather still ahead of us lets do what we can to help those suffering from homelessness. I’m collecting items for the Do Drop In Center and the homeless of Carson City. Some of the items needed are:

The drive Don French and I took to Florida last week had been accomplished sans paper map. Well, actually, halfway there we did buy a road atlas at a rest stop, but more for old time’s sake than for any navigational need. We two are of an age when we remember our parents folding and re-folding those gas station road maps, the mom scanning the route as the dad drove, telling him to “take the next left”, he ignoring her, then “TURN HERE!” as the car sailed past the crucial intersection, he grumbling at her all the way back to the missed turn.
