Two North Iowans – Ian Stockberg with Good Shepherd, Inc., in Mason City and Josh Barnes with Osage Municipal Utilities – were among 40 who graduated from the Leadership Iowa program during the 2018 Taking Care of Business Conference in Coralville last month. Leadership Iowa, a program of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation, is an eight-month professional development program that allowed participants to travel "to numerous locations throughout the state to learn about those issues and to gain a better understanding of the role they can play in addressing them."

You know the holidays are just around the corner when MCA Denver dusts off its serendipitous Black Sheep Friday series for another year. Act like a child when the ninth annual series starts at 6 p.m. Friday, November 9,  with the Slinky Olympics, an evening of fun and games that includes Slinky stair-racing, a Slinky headband competition and, for no reason, dancing. Black Sheep Fridays continue every other Friday through January 18, with activities focusing on Mr. Rogers’s sweater-decorating, C’Rap Karaoke, the ever-popular XXX-Mas Craft Fair and more. The main reason though appears to be the chemical composition of the slag, because this is beaten pig steel and not pure iron, so it often has nickel, copper, phosphorous, tin etc. which make it a kind of poor man’s stainless steel. High sulfur or chlorine content makes it worse for corrosion though.
